Total War: Warhammer finally announced for PC

The long-rumoured Total War: Warhammer has at last been made official by publisher Sega.

Developed by Creative Assembly in conjunction with Games Workshop, the game is in development for PC and Mac, as well as SteamOS.

It has also been confirmed that the game will be the first of a trilogy of standalone titles, all three of which will combine – along with a host of additional content.

The studio reckons that the move away from historical accuracy and towards fantasy brings with it some key changes to the formula – namely huge monsters and loads of screen-wide magical effects.

We’ve always loved the Warhammer universe, and couldn’t wait to approach it with the same colossal scale and authenticity that has characterised our titles for the last 15 years,” project lead Ian Roxburgh said. We’re bringing it to life in a way that nobody’s attempted before.”

The game has been rumoured for a while, having initially been outed in a Creative Assembly art book. The studio is also working on a triple-A console game, the identity of which has yet to be revealed.
