PlayStation Mobile is coming to a close

Sony is to terminate the PlayStation Mobile service on Vita in the summer.

Distribution of content will end on July 15th and the service proper will be shut down on September 10th. From that date users won’t be able to re-download any content they may have previously purchased. Nor will they be able to download the PlayStation Mobile for Android app.

Vita owners will be able to carry on playing any titles they have already downloaded, however, although they will have to manually activate their handhelds to do so. Failing to do so before September 10th will see access to the content lost.

The PlayStation Mobile dev portal will be closed before the end of the year.

PlayStation Mobile, which was the brainchild of former PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai, was launched in 2012 with the aim of bringing older PlayStation and small indie games to Vita and compatible Android devices.

The Android arm of the service was terminated last year.
