GameStop will support Apple Pay

The US arm of games retailer GameStop is to begin accepting Apple Pay in its 4,200 stores later this month.

Apple Pay, which was launched in the US last October, allows users to pay for items using their iPhones – providing stores have a compatible NFC device at the checkout. An owner’s credit card information is not actually stored on their phone and is instead accessed remotely via the process.

Apple boss Tim Cook has previously said that 1m credit cards were registered with the service in its first three days, instantly making it the largest mobile payment system on the planet. Some retailers, however, have said they will not be accepting Apple Pay due to existing agreements with other providers.

GameStop will accept payments via iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch.

We are excited to make it easier and more convenient for our customers to shop at GameStop,” senior vice president of US Jason Cochran said. Providing a positive, memorable customer experience is our top priority. Incorporating the latest in mobile technology, like Apple Pay, into our stores is another way we are offering customers options to help simplify their purchases.”
