Frédérick Raynal returns to the survival horror genre he helped define

Alone in the Dark creator crowdfunding new horror game

The creator of the original Alone in the Dark has begun work on a brand new horror game, and has turned to crowdfunding to aid development.

Frédérick Raynal has launched a campaign on French site Ulule to raise €30,000 for his new psychological horror 2Dark, according to VG247.

The game takes its inspiration from horror and cop films, as well as TV shows. Gamers will control police office Mr Smith as he tries to rescue children from the various hideouts of dangerous killers.

Raynal has spent the last few years running independent developers Ludoid with his wife, but has formed a new firm Gloomywood for work on 2Dark, teaming up with a collection of industry veterans.

Gloomywood team members include former Infogrames employees Thierry Platon, Didier Chanfray and Yael Barroz, BiP Media MD Sophie-Anne Bled, musician Samuel Safa and animator Rudy Wilde.

The team has even created new character modelling tech, the Gloomy Voxel Editor, which is one of the rewards for backers.
