New Atlus now employs 121 staff and is planning a new development schedule

Sega splitting Atlus off from Index

The Atlus brand has been resurrected by new owner Sega Sammy.

Atlus owner Index filed for bankruptcy in June of last year and was three months later acquired by Sega.

Now Gematsu reports that the Index subsidiary will on April 1st be split into two companies – Atlus and Index. In addition Index’s overseas subsidiary Index Digital Media will be rebranded as Atlus USA.

The new Atlus now employs 121 workers and is already planning a new development schedule. Index, however, will concern itself with distribution and advertising. That business currently employs 166 people.

Sega MD and Index director Yukio Sugino will head up the new Atlus business with Yasuhiko Hamada taking charge of Index.

Atlus is best known for the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series.
