Support for mobile SDK extended to Microsoft’s mobile and tablet platforms

Corona SDK coming to Windows Phone in 2014

Microsoft has partnered with Corona Labs to bring the Corona SDK to Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store apps next year.

Support for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store will give Corona users the ability to use their existing code to build apps for these platforms, in addition to the SDK’s existing support for iOS, Android, Kindle and Nook.

Beta support for Windows Phone 8 will be available from Corona in the first quarter of 2014.

Microsoft has brought a number of firms creating cross-platform developer tools on board in order to make it Windows Phone platform more accessible.

“We continue to see strong growth within the Windows app ecosystem, thanks in part to contributions from companies like Corona Labs,” says Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Apps and Store, Microsoft Corp.

“Corona’s platform has attracted a large number of successful developers who will be able to easily extend their apps into the Windows ecosystem.”

David Rangel, COO of Corona Labs added: “Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 have proven to be great platforms for developers, and their growing user base presents a large opportunity. We look forward to working with Microsoft, empowering Corona developers to build apps for Windows devices and reaching an even broader audience for their apps and games.”

The Corona SDK enables 2D app development across multiple platforms and is used by more than 300,000 developers worldwide.
