Final Fantasy VI heading to iOS, Android

Square Enix will release a modified version of its classic RPG Final Fantasy VI this winter for iOS and Android devices.

Producer Takashi Tokita toldKotaku the game won’t be a straight port, packing sharpened 2D graphics and other improvements.

"It is basically like a remake of the original VI, but there have been some enhancements,” Tokita said. The battle systems have been altered for the other [mobile remakes] for Final Fantasy and VI will be the same.”

For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don’t have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is."

The game was originally released in North America on the Super Nintendo as Final Fantasy III.

Takita also noted that titles such as Final Fantasy VII could make it out on mobile devices as part of Square Enix’s legacy series, which is currently focused on porting Final Fantasy: The After Years to mobile devices.

"We are aware that we have tons of VII fans," he said.

"We have VII fans in our own company. If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII."
