Microsoft: Don’t expect indies on Xbox One until early 2014

Microsoft doesn’t expect to see much of an indie game presence on Xbox One until sometime early next year.

Speaking with Games Industry, Microsoft corportate vice president Phil Harrison explained that – despite an avalanche of interest” in the Independent Developers @ Xbox program – it’s unlikely many of the indie games heading to the console will make it out by launch.

"I don’t think it’s realistic to see a developer get the program and build a game and get it into the market on November 22," Harrison said.

"It’s reasonable to expect in early 2014 we’ll start seeing the first games come through."

Harrison added that the company is "very happy" about the console’s current launch line-up of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Dead Rising 3 and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag – specifically referencing upcoming mecha FPS Titanfall.

"That lineup is very, very strong, and Titanfall is turning into the huge megahit that we expected it to be."

Xbox One launches November 22nd in US and Europe.
