Windows Phone shipments outpacing BlackBerry 10 by 3-to-1

New estimates paint a very bleak picture for BlackBerry 10.

PocketGamer has done some number crunching following BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins’ admission that just 40 per cent (around 2.7m) of the 6.8m smartphones his company shipped in the last quarter were BB10 devices.

For comparison, Samsung shipped an estimated 70.7m smartphones in its most recent quarter and Apple shipped 38m iPhones.

A more worrying comparison is with Windows Phone 8 – a sales struggler by any measure – which shipped an estimated 7m devices, bettering BB10’s performance by nearly three-to-one

Heins admits that he has a lot of work to do” to secure the platform’s future.

2013 has not been a kind year to BlackBerry. In January European MD Stephen Bates was involved in an embarrassing phone interview on BBC Radio 5Live.

In March the company astonishingly accused Apple of lacking innovation and in May it claimed that the tablet market would be completely dead in five years time.
