Over 8m viewers tuned into Xbox One event stream

Microsoft’s unveiling of the Xbox One brought in a massive amount of viewers.

The company has announced the stream of the event was watched by 8.45m people on the day of the reveal, with 1.73m tuning in on Spike TV.

The former figure triples the firm’s previous record for concurrent viewers on Xbox.com.

Akamai, Microsoft’s streaming partner, also noted that it was the most watched live broadcast in the company’s history – with stronger numbers than the most recent Presidential election night, Royal Wedding and World Cup.

"With the unveiling of Xbox One, the all-in-one entertainment system for a new generation, we knew immediately Xbox fans were tuning into the announcement in record numbers,” Xbox Wire’s Lisa Gurry wrote. We are humbled and grateful for your loyalty and interest in the unveiling of Xbox One.”
