UPDATED: Thief 4 confirmed for PS4, PC and "other next-gen platforms"

A Russian website has gone live with what seem to be the first images from Square Enix’s Thief 4.

The publisher has previously confirmed that the game is in development at Deus Ex: Human Revolution developer Eidos Montreal. This new leak claims that the game is due out on PC and next-gen consoles in 2014.

The Thief series debuted in 1998 with the release of Looking Glass Studios’ Thief: The Dark Project. This was followed by the sequel Thief II: Metal Age in 2000 and later by Ion Storm’s Thief: Deadly Shadows in 2004.

UPDATE: And it’s confirmed! GameInformer has named the game as the cover star of its next issue. It’s not called Thief 4 or Thi4f either – it’s now just called Thief.

Series hero Garrett returns to the Gothic, industrial metropolis known simply as the City to steal any and everything that will make him richer,” the magazine says.

Unfortunately, the City is broiling with social tension as it is ravaged by a plague and lorded over by a political tyrant known as the Baron. In order to survive his adventures, Garrett will have to pay attention to his environment and make use of the may possible paths through each of the game’s levels.”

The game is due out on PS4, PC and other next-gen platforms” in 2014.

Here are the leaked stills which are more than a little reminiscent of Bethesda’s Dishonored, we’re sure you’ll agree:
