Tattoo artist suing THQ over UFC Undisputed

A lion tattoo on the ribcage of UFC fighter Carlos Condit has landed THQ in some unwelcome legal hot water.

Condit has featured as a fighter in THQ’s UFC series and his digital likeness includes an exact replica of a lion tattoo on his midriff. And now the tattoo artist who created is claiming breach of copyright.

People often believe that they own the images that are tattooed on them by tattoo artists,” Escobedo’s lawyer Maria Crimi Speth stated, as reported by PRWeb.

In reality, the owner of the tattoo artwork is the creator of the work, unless there is a written assignment of the copyright in the tattoo art.”

Escobedo himself added that he would not have agreed to the recreation of the tattoo by an animator” had he been asked by THQ and that their use of it is wilful, intentional and in disregard of his own rights”.
