South Korean developer XLGames collaborating with Firaxis on Asia-only title

Over 100 developers working on Civilization MMO

More than 100 developers are working on a new Civilization MMO aimed exclusively at the Asian market.

Being developed by Firaxis in partnership with South Korean-based studio XLGames and led by the latter’s CEO Jake Song, the title will be an entirely new online game based on the longstanding series.

Civilization Online is the latest game in publisher Take-Two’s expansion in the Asian market during the last few months, having released other titles such as NBA 2K Onlne, NBA 2K All-Stars and Pro Baseball 2K for the region.

“2K is committed to supporting the growing Asian market by bringing our best IP and strongest franchises to the most popular online platforms in each territory,” said 2K COO David Ismailer.

“Civilization Online is an example of how 2K can leverage its successful franchises, beyond sports, to create entirely new experiences in genres that resonate with customers in this region.”

Project lead and XLGames CEO Jake Song has previously worked on titles such as MMORPG Lineage, which has played host to 43 million players since its release in 1998.
