South Korea bans iPhone 4 and iPad 2 sales

A South Korean court has banned sales of various Apple iPhones and tablets after ruling it had infringed patents owned by Samsung.

As reported by the BBC, platforms affected include the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2.

More recent devices are not banned from sale however.

Samsung meanwhile has also been banned from selling some of its products including the Galaxy SI, SII, Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The Korean mobile giant had been found guilty of violating Apple’s “bounce back” function patent, which stops users scrolling to a blank screen.

Apple was found guilty of two infringements, including telecom standards owned by Samsung and tech related to the transfer of data between devices.

Samsung and Apple are currently embroiled in a larger lawsuit in the US, where the world’s richest company is suing the mobile giant for allegedly copying the design of the iPhone and iPad for its Galaxy range of devices in a case worth more than £1.6bn.

It should be noted however, that the South Korean court rejected Apple’s claims that Samsung had copied the designs of its tablets and smartphones.
