300,000 depart World of Warcraft

The number of paying subscribers for World of Warcraft fell to 11.1m between May and July, but Blizzard has plans to reverse the downturn.

World of Warcraft is still the PC’s leading MMO despite losing 300,000 players. Back in May this year the online RPG had 11.4m players. At its peak it had around 12m users signed up.

"As our players have become more experienced playing World of Warcraft over many years, they have become much better and much faster at consuming content," developer-publisher Blizzard’s CEOMike Morhaime recently said.

"And so I think with Cataclysm they were able to consume the content faster than with previous expansions, but that’s why we’re working on developing more content."
