Activision’s Marvel titles pulled from digital storefronts

UPDATE: Marvel games will continue to be made available at retail stores, Activision says. Games like Deadpool can still be purchased on the High Street, but is no-longer available from digital download sites.

ORIGINAL STORY: Activision’s Marvel-licensed games have been permanently removed from Steam, PSN, and Xbox Live.

Game Informer reports on the disappearance of several titles based in the Marvel universe from the digital platforms, including last year’s Deadpool release. Expiring licenses between the two companies have apparently spelled the end of the games’ general availability.

That goes for retail as well. Activision confirmed that purchasing an existing shipped copy of the game is now the only way to get a copy of the game. No new copies will be shipped moving forward.

The titles include: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men Destiny, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the aforementioned Deadpool.
