Amazon to end £2 physical game discount for Prime member preorders

Amazon is ending it’s £2 discount for Amazon Prime members that preorder physical games.

One of the least talked about benefits of an Amazon Prime subscription was the £2 discount for physical game preorders with the online retailer.

An email sent out by the retailer in the early hours of this morning said that this bonus was no longer available.

From the email MCV staff received:

"We would now like to inform you that we will no longer offer the Prime discount of £2 on physical video game pre-orders from 7 August, 2018. You can still use this Prime discount without restriction until this date and you will continue to receive all these Twitch Prime benefits:

  • Discount codes for new video game releases
  • Bonus games that are yours to keep every month
  • Monthly subscription for your favourite Twitch streamer
  • In-game loot including outfits, vehicles and items, plus surprises and exclusives for popular games

"

This little bonus gave the retailer a slight leg-up on other online retailers, and it will be interesting to see whether they keep doing such a roaring trade in physical games. I mean, let’s assume so as it’s Amazon but response to the change online has largely been negative, with some pointing out that in many cases this could make Amazon more expensive than other online retailers.
