Android app downloads top 10 billion

More than 10 billion apps have been downloaded through Google’s Android marketplace to date.

This is only expected to grow as Android users are now installing a combined one billion users per month, according to Gamasutra. By comparison it took the Android Market 22 months to reach its first one billion milestone following its launch in October 2008.

Google is marking this achievement by offering ten-day discounts on several Android games and apps such as Minecraft, Fieldrunners HD, Deer Hunter, Asphalt 6 HD and Great Little War Game.

The company did not reveal the split between paid and free apps, or how many of the 10bn were games.
