Apache: Air Assault announced

Publisher Activision has announced a brand new flight sim that’s due for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 some time this autumn.

Apache: Air Assault is being developed independent Russian studio Gaijin Entertainment which was the outfit behind last year’s console outing IL2-Sturmovik: Birds of Prey that was published by 505 Games in the UK.

The game will see players fending off waves of terrorists or, as the press release puts it, raining down destruction from above in the world’s most volatile warzones”.

Over 16 missions are planned spanning locales such as Africa, the Middle East and Central America, all of which have been constructed using real satellite images. Several versions of the Apache helicopter will be playable.

Two modes of play cater for a wide variety of players, with Arcade Mode offering an accessible take on the formula and Realistic Mode providing a more detailed, demanding style of play. Also included is a co-op Campaign Mode that sees one player taking on the role of pilot and the other acting as co-pilot. Online multiplayer is also planned.

No games on next-gen consoles have been dedicated to helicopter combat simulation, but that is about to change this autumn,” Activision’s David Oxford stated.

Apache: Air Assault offers fun for diehard military enthusiasts and flight sim fans as well as gamers who just want to blow stuff up.”
