Asda eyes move into digital space

Asda games buying boss Duncan Cross has hinted that the supermarket is ready to accommodate the sale of digital games – but said that any move into the space is not a priority’.

With the digital-only PSPgo due to hit shelves this year and Amazon US selling points cards for Microsoft’s online Xbox Live service, pressure is growing on retailers to take advantage of the straight-to-consumer model.

Speaking to MCV in an exclusive interview, Cross said:

"Right now it is not our priority, but we are obviously keeping an eye on the digital market. We need to make sure we are reacting as quickly as possible within the confines of a supermarket retailer. It is something we need to be aware of, but it’s not something we’re planning a radical overhaul of, at least in the next year or so."
