AUS: Mature games to be discussed

The Australian government has at last opened up the debate on whether or not its classification system should be restructured to accommodate adult or mature video games.

The strict Australian classification system has been in the news again recently thanks to its decision to ban Rebellion’s Aliens vs Predator – a move that the UK developer has directly attacked.

The problem stems from the fact that the highest rating available to censors when classifying video games in M 15+. Anything dubbed unsuitable for those below the age of 15 cannot be granted a release.

Submissions are being sought on whether the Australian National Classification Scheme should include an R 18+ classification category for computer games,” the attorney general’s department stated.

Public submissions will be accepted until February 28th.
