Best Buy launching games mag

Having enjoyed a record-breaking start to its life in the UK, it is now being claimed that retailer Best Buy is to launch an official in-store games magazine across its chain of North American stores.

The claims come from the Facebook account of Andy Eddy, as spotted by The Game Beat. On it he claims: I’m working at Future US in the Future Plus group on a new publication called @Gamer, the ‘official games magazine of Best Buy’.”

@Gamer is apparently scheduled for a June release.

Best Buy isn’t the first retailer to launch its own magazine in the US. GameStop’s Game Informer is a very popular publication and commonly breaks world exclusives. Future also publishes a host of bespoke retailer mags in the UK.

Best Buy has been forthright with its bold intentions in the games space. The launch of a dedicated games mag exclusive to its stores is the latest development in Best Buy’s aggressive strategy.

MCV also exclusively revealed the chain’s plans to offer pre-owned games in its UK stores.
