Bigpoint bags Ice Age deal from 20th Century Fox

A free-to-play browser game based on the Ice Age franchise is on the way from Bigpoint.

The web specialist has reached an agreement with Twentieth Century Fox to produce the game, which will feature characters and locations from the franchise’s four movies.

Players will assume the role of a sloth tasked with rescuing herd of lost animals and then build a home for them using resources collected in the game. There will be lots of personalisation options and plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow users, as well as the chance to visit camps built by other players.

The game will be built using the Unity development platform.

We’re excited to work with one of the most successful film franchises of all time,” Bigpoint CEO and founder Heiko Hubertz stated.

We’re equally happy to begin working with Fox on this project and are eager to give Ice Age fans another way to enjoy the fun they’ve had at the movies.”

Fox consumer products president Jeffrey Godsick added: Video games and film have an organic connection, and the online game space offers virtually limitless creative opportunities to extend the cinematic experience and the Ice Age brand.

Bigpoint, the market-leading pioneer among online video game companies, is the natural choice for us to partner with in building the world of Ice Age Online.”

To date the Ice Age brand has grossed over $4bn at the global box office, with the fourth movie in the series – Ice Age 4: Continental Drift – due out in cinemas in July.
