Black Ops beats Modern Warfare 3 by 0.5m copies in UK

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have shattered records left, right and centre, but it fell far short of its predecessor in the UK.

As revealed by MCV this morning, ERA’s 2011 UK Entertainment charts reveals that Modern Warfare 3 sold 2,814,609 copies in the UK between its release on November 8th and the end of the year.

By comparison, Black Ops sold 3,266,298 copies in the same time period in 2010.

That’s a deficit of nearly half a million – 451,789 copies.

And Call of Duty wasn’t the only powerhouse gaming brand to suffer a slump. EA’s tremendous FIFA 12 fell 196,929 copies short of FIFA 11 with sales of 2,193,302 copies.

Perhaps the numbers aren’t such a big surprise, seeing as the 2011 UK games market finished 13 per cent lower than in 2010.
