Blind Squirrel Games lays off 13 employees

Blind Squirrel Games, the studio behind the HD remasters of Bioshock and Borderlands, laid off 13 staff members on Wednesday after the cancellation of a project.

In a statement to Gamasutra, who broke the news, Blind Squirrel Games said: "Unfortunately, due to the unexpected cancellation of an unannounced project, Blind Squirrel Games laid off 13 staff members today – less than 10% of our workforce," reads the statement.

"The studio continues to work on multiple projects. Our hearts go out to those who were laid off, and while we are working with our partners to find them new homes, we are grateful for any additional help others in the industry may provide."

Blind Squirrel Games most recently worked with 2K on getting Prey and XCOM 2: War Of The Chosen onto consoles. Currently, despite the layoffs they are hiring for a variety of roles on the Blind Squirrel Entertainment careers page. It’s as yet unknown whether these roles will continue to be hired for, and which parts of the business has suffered cuts.

In the meantime, employees recently laid off from the US studio are looking for new work. A hashtag, #BlindSquirrelJobs has been set up although hasn’t yet gained traction.
