Blizzard announces multiplayer shooter Overwatch

New IPs from Blizzard are quite a rarity, so there was much excitement when Blizzard announced a brand new shooter at Blizzcon at the weekend.

Boasting some highly stylised graphics and a rich roster of characters, Overwatch champions accessibility and fun over everything else as six-player teams compete against one another online.

12 different playable characters are offered across three maps, with beta testing scheduled to begin in 2015.

Overwatch is our take on a vibrant, near-future universe with amped-up characters and action-packed team-based gameplay,” Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime said.

With every new Blizzard game, we look at our favorite aspects of a genre and put our own spin on things. Our goal with Overwatch is to create an awesome FPS experience that’s more accessible to a much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans love."
