Borderlands 2 blasts 2K pre-order records

BioShock. Civlization. Mafia. 2K Games has plenty of popular franchises – but it has a new champion when it comes to pre-orders.

As of today, Borderlands 2 has become the publisher’s most pre-ordered title in the UK of all time.

The wacky Gearbox-developed role-playing shooter is due for release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on September 21st. Pre-orders have been driven by the promise of access to the Premiere Club, which gives gamers a bunch of additional weapons, items and a new Mechromancer class.

The creation of a packed collector’s Vault Hunter Edition has also contributed to early interest.

2K has also been pushing pre-orders at independent retail with its limited edition Top Trumps – click here to find out how you can win one of ten packs.

"We’re exceptionally happy with the level of support gamers have shown to Borderlands 2, and the pre-orders are reflecting what a beloved franchise this is," Take-Two’s UK sales director Dave Gould told MCV.

"Orders are increasing week-on-week at a rate we’ve never before experienced for a 2K title. They are exceeding our already high expectations, there’s huge momentum behind the game."
