CCP has given EVE’s ship browser ‘ISIS’ a new name

Until now the ship browser tool within MMO title EVE Online has been known as the ‘Interbus Ship Identification System’. The acronym for which is very unfortunate.

That’s all changed, however, with players recently discovering that an update to the game has given the ISIS screen a new name – it’s now called the ‘Ship Tree’.

Kotaku reports that CCP has denied that the change has anything to do with the terrorist group of the same name, however, and argued that it simply wanted to use a clearer moniker.

Just to clarify, the renaming has nothing to do with ‘ISIS’ being a name used by any real life terrorist group,” an employee of the developer said on Reddit. I questioned Development about this when I saw the proposed name change internally, because if that was the reason then I was set to oppose it.

The reasoning for the change is the fact that the name is too obscure for new players, and might confuse them.”
