CD Projekt Red partners with Canadian studio on Cyberpunk 2077

Upcoming hype-magnet Cyberpunk 2077 has an extra studio working on it, as Digital Scapes has been brought on in a collaborative fashion for undisclosed elements of the game’s development.

The partnership is of the long term variety, according to the CD Projekt blog post, and will see CD Projekt Red co-operate with the Canadian team on its upcoming RPG project.

Digital Scapes was set up by industry veterans from BioWare, Radical Entertainment, and Relic, with a focus on the tech side of things – but also bespoke multiplayer aspects of games. The team helped with the formation of Dying Light’s Be the Zombie mode, showing the rumours about Cyberpunk’s multiplayer component could be more than just careless whispers.

Or it could just be because Digital Scapes makes solid dev tools, we don’t know as of yet.

CD Projekt Red’s SVP of business development, Michał Nowakowski, said of the deal: “Cyberpunk 2077 is our most ambitious project to date and we work hard every day to make it a creative and technological achievement. The Digital Scapes team brings aboard a lot of talent, experience and technical knowledge, and I’m very confident our long-term cooperation will add plenty to the game.”

Marcin Chady, Digital Scapes’ studio head, said: “We are both excited and honoured to work with CD PROJEKT RED. Their incredibly creative and accomplished team of developers have been pushing narrative-driven, role-playing games to unprecedented levels. We look forward to helping them create the very best video games on the planet.”

CD Projekt might currently be dealing with an unpaid royalties allegation from the Witcher’s creator, but it looks like the claim isn’t slowing the firm down much.
