CES 2008: Disney-ABC and MGM sign up to Xbox Live

Microsoft’s Bill Gates used his last ever speech at the annual Consumer Electronics Show to announce film behemoth MGM and TV network ABC-Disney had signed up to new content deals with his firm’s Xbox division.

The technology magnate was joined on stage by Microsoft’s president of its entertainment and devices division, Robbie Bach to unveil the partnerships, which will see the studios’ movies and TV properties made available on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Bach and Gates also revealed that MGM’s sister company United Artists have also signed up to the service.

MGM movies expected to become available on the service include The Terminator (pictured), Silence Of The Lambs, Platoon, Rain Man and The Usual Suspects.

Disney-ABC properties include High School Musical, Lost, Hannah Montana, Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.

Disney-ABC Television Group and MGM are two of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, and this announcement helps continue to evolve and diversify the content offering on Xbox Live,” said Bach.

The ability to offer such great content in high definition further expands Microsoft’s commitment to connected entertainment with Xbox 360.”
