Battlefield 3 fails to topple COD from Xbox Live league

Sales have been strong and the critical reception not bad, but Battlefield 3 has failed to clear the first hurdle in its race against the behemoth that is Call of Duty.

The latest Xbox Live user chart from Microsoft shows that Battlefield 3 was only the third most played game on Xbox Live last week behind both Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2, who claimed first and second respectively.

Note, though, that Battlefield was only fully rolled out into all territories on Friday of last week, putting it at a slight disadvantage.

It did, however, beat the likes of Gears of War 3, FIFA 12, Halo Reach and Forza 4.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released worldwide on November 8th.
