Call of Duty: Elite to close this Friday

Activision’s social network for Call of Duty is to be canned.

The stat tracking service was introduced with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops II. However, it received little use in new release Ghosts, which instead favoured the new Clan Wars system.

The publisher says the service will cease as of February 28th at 10am PST and will be replaced with the official Call of Duty app.

"There are no plans to bring Call of Duty Elite back," reads an Activision statement..

"We encourage fans to download the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which allows players to customise their multiplayer character and weapons loadouts on the go, keep track of their Call of Duty: Ghosts stats, and features Call of Duty Clan Wars, where players can compete for cool, exclusive in-game gear."

Activision will mark the closure of the service with a double XP period for Call of Duty players.
