E3 08: Gran Turismo TV for August 1st

SCEE boss David Reeves has confirmed that the upcoming Gran Turismo TV will be released in Europe on the same date it arrives in North America – August 1st.

That’s also the date that retailers will begin selling PS3 Platinum titles. Pleasingly, it follows Home beta’s lead in maintaining parity with SCEA’s release schedule.

Seemingly not dogged by the kind of licensing complications that have seen the PSN video service held back in Europe until 2009, Gran Turismo TV will offer a range of car-orientated downloadable content, such as episodes of BBC’s Top Gear. Not something you’ll need if you have access to Dave on Freeview, of course.

GT TV is officially part of the Gran Turismo 5 offering, but with Polyphony Digital’s game seemingly off at the radar at Sony’s E3 conference it’s understandable that Sony wanted to get it launched as soon as possible.
