FIFA 11 enjoys record UK launch

As well as claiming the top spot in the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 this week, FIFA 11 has also set a new sales benchmark for the series.

As well as enjoying FIFA’s best ever week one, the game also enjoyed the third strongest launch week ever in the UK, falling just behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Compared to FIFA 10, unit sales were up 21 per cent year-on-year and, interestingly, revenue was up 36 per cent – perhaps a direct result of the slightly less aggressive approach with which retail attacked the RRP this year.

In total the game claimed 51 per cent of the UK’s total unit sales last week.

Xbox 360 was the favoured platform, with unit sales up 26 per cent year-on-year. PS3 unit sales climbed 23 per cent. With each SKU taken in isolation the Xbox version claims the UK’s eighth strongest launch and the PS3 version the ninth.

Between them the Xbox 360 and PS3 SKUs accounted for 96 per cent of the game’s sales.
