Final Fantasy XV to get simultaneous 2016 worldwide launch

The next iteration in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series – XV – is going to be launching globally next year.

That’s according to GameSpot who spoke to Final Fantasy XV’s director, Hajime Tabata.

Tabata confirmed that the game is going to be released before 2017, pointing towards a 2016 launch date.

When asked about Square’s plans to announce a release date, Tabata said: "At the very least, I can tell you that it isn’t going to be released this year. I think we’ll be able to tell you when we’re making the announcement around PAX Prime, at the end of this month."

He continued: "We can certainly say to people: [Final Fantasy XV’s release date is] not going to be 2017. It’s going to be before that."

Tabata then went onto reveal that the title will be released simulatenously globally – a first for a ‘main’ Final Fantasy game.

"This may be something that we are little bit embarrassed to talk about, but really, this is the first time that we’ve done a packaged, standalone Final Fantasy game with a simultaneous global launch, so we didn’t have the setup to deal with that, really,” he said.

The first thing we had to do was rearrange our internal structure to create something that could do that. That was the first important work on the project."
