Grand Theft Auto V has sold 5m boxed copies in the UK

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a force to be reckoned with at UK physical retail, and last week surpassed five million units sold in the UK.

That’s according to market data from GfK Chart-Track, which counts sales of UK physical games.

It has sold one million units since last November when it became the best-selling UK game of all time, toppling previous record holder, Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops.

When it launched in September 2013,it sold 2.25m copies in its first week on UK shelves, and globally made $1bn in three days. Within a month it had smashed past 3m units sold.

Since then these impressive sales have been bolstered by the release of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One SKUs, and the long-awaited PC release came out earlier this year.
