LA Noire pushes Xbox disc limits

After such a long wait for it to arrive at retail, Rockstar is packing crime title LA Noire with an incredible amount of content.

So much so that, according to Kotaku, the game has had to be spread across three discs on Xbox 360. It will be a single Blu-ray disc release on PS3.

"LA Noire was always going to be a massive game, from the size and detail of the world to the length of the cases, and of course, the sheer amount of MotionScan data required for the faces of over 400 actors in-game," developer Jeronimo Barrera stated.

"To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs."

He adds that as a game with a linear storyline, each disc swap will only be needed once.

Of course, LA Noire is neither the first game to ship on multiple discs on Xbox 360. And it doesn’t even claim the crown for the most discs in one box – Microsoft RPG Lost Odyssey came on four discs.
