Microsoft pulls Windows RT 8.1 update after BSOD issues

The Windows 8.1 update designed for Microsoft’s RT tablet PCs has been pulled from the Windows Store.

TechSpot reports that Microsoft has confirmed an issue that affects roughly one in every thousand users that results in Windows tablets displaying the infamous ‘blue screen of death’ (BSOD) after updating.

A workaround is available for those who have been affected that involves downloading a 3.7GB patch onto a USB drive.

For everyone else, the update has been pulled until Microsoft can implement a fix.

Microsoft is currently the only supplier of Windows RT devices after manufactures including Asus, Lenovo and Samsung dropped the machines from their tablet ranges.
