PSN faces South Korean suspension

Sony has confirmed that it is to suspend its PlayStation Network service in South Korea.

The network will be taken offline on June 29th. The move will not affect PS Vita of PSP users.

Gamasutra reports that the cause is a new South Korean legal enforcement called the Game Industry Promotion Act. Its main goal is to tackle the problem of excessive games usage amongst some sections of the Korean public.

However, one of its requirements is that persons under the age of 18 cannot be required to their real name and age as part of any registration or authentication process.

PSN does currently require and Sony has said it does not have the time to make the necessary changes before the deadline. Instead, it will reinstate the network at a later date once the required changes have been made.
