This year’s Black Friday was PlayStation’s best yet

PlayStation seems to have had a pretty great Black Friday.

Speaking to the Financial Times, PlayStation president Andrew House said that Black Friday 2015 was in fact the best-performing the company has seen to date.

"We’ve just seen the most successful Black Friday in the company’s history," House said.

"We are now trying to benchmark against the success of the PlayStation 2 – or exceed it if possible."

He continued: "Rumours of the demise of the console have been greatly exaggerated.”

Sony isn’t the only platform holder to see a record-breaking Black Friday. Microsoft has also said that its Xbox One saw a 22 per cent rise in console sales in the US. However, this was not the biggest Black Friday Xbox had seen.

In the UK, over 300,000 consoles were sold during the Black Friday period. PlayStation came out on top here, with around 139,000 PS4s sold. Microsoft sold roughly 134,000 Xbox One console.

Meanwhile, 1.8m games were sold in the UK during Black Friday and 56m was generated in software revenue.
