Twitter bomb threat takes down SOE boss’ flight amidst spate of DDoS attacks

A bomb threat sent from a Twitter account linked to a DDoS attack on PSN forced a diversion to a flight carrying Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley.

Polygon reports that said hacker group had earlier that day the same account claimed responsibility for taking down Sony’s PlayStation Network, as well as attacks on Blizzard’ Battle.net, online title League of Legends and Path of Exile.

Xbox Live was also subjected to some downtime over the weekend. All services appear to be now up and running again.

Later Smedley tweeted that was about to fly from Dallas to San Diego – which was seemingly enough information for the Twitter account in question to go to work.

It was subsequently confirmed by American Airlines that Flight 362, which was carrying 179 passengers, was diverted for security reasons”. The FBI is apparently investigating what happened.
