Costume Quest animated series coming to Amazon in 2018

Just last week, we learned that Adventure Time’s Frederator Studios will be bringing Castlevania to Netflix later this year as an animated series. However, it now seems that won’t be the only video game animation adaptation the studio’s got up its sleeve.

Announced on Frederator’s websiteyesterday, the studio will also be bringing Double Fine’s Costume Quest to Amazon Instant Video in 2018.

"Well, the bag’s out of the cat—we’ll be producing aCostume Questseries for Amazon," Frederator stated. "It’s Frederator Studios’ first project with Amazon, and we’re truly happy about it (and doubly happy it’s with such a wonderful property)."

It’s currently unknown whether the animated series will follow the same plot as Double Fine’s pair of Costume Quest titles, but the initial artwork Frederator revealed (see right) suggests it will at least feature some of the same characters.

Zac Gorman has written, designed and storyboarded several characters for the pilot episode, and Pat McHale will be directing that initial short episode.

"It’s been a journey, but the writers’ room is staffed (that’s another post), and we’re counting down the days till theCostume Questpremiere in 2018."

The first Costume Quest released in 2010, which was then followed by a sequel in 2014. Both titles follow a group of young trick-or-treaters who are attacked by monsters while they’re out collecting candy.

Double Fine re-acquired the rights to the Costume Quest IP four years ago. The rights were previously held by Nordic Games, who acquired distribution rights to both Double Fine’s Stacking and Costume Quest when former publisher THQ went bankrupt in 2013. Double Fine then re-acquired both publishing and distribution rights later that year, partnering with Nordic Games to bring the retail release of Psychonauts, Costume Quest and Stacking to PC in 2014.
