CS:GO traIning platform Boomeo closes down

Boomeo, the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive training platform, closed down suddenly on Wednesday night.

The platform, which provided practice servers and content for players looking to increase their skill, was run by WME-IMG and it’s believed that the platform closed down due to the departure of key WME-IMG personnel.

The site is currently offline, and entering Boomeo’s web address comes back with an error. Meanwhile, the Boomeo Twitter account, with 10,000 followers, hasn’t tweeted since September 3. Boomeo’s YouTube channel has no content on it.

Boomeo was one of the biggest tools for Counter-Strike players looking to improve, and had partnerships with SK Gaming, Astralis, Cloud9, CLG and many others to provide content from pro players on how to improve your game.

An anonymous source told Esports Pro that Boomeo was mostly supported internally by the esports team at WME-IMG, who departed the company several months ago. Without those key personnel the product fell out of favour with WME-IMG and was wrapped up.

However, Boomeo has made a big impact and it seems like a ripe candidate to be sold rather than shuttered forever. Whether we’ll see the content brought back or not remains to be seen, but CS:GO isn’t small, and if this training platform doesn’t reappear it’s likely, now that the idea is out there, that someone else will take up the mantle.
