Cuba outraged by Black Ops

Ahead of the release of the first sales numbers of Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops today, the state media of Cuba has denounced the title, claiming that it stimulates sociopathic attitudes”.

Much of the reaction stems from the game’s opening mission, which sees players taking part in an attempted assassination of iconic former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The Associated Press reports that Cuba’s state-run news website claims: What the United States couldn’t accomplish in more than 50 years, they are now trying to do virtually.

This new video game is doubly perverse. On the one hand, it glorifies the illegal assassination attempts the United States government planned against the Cuban leader and on the other, it stimulates sociopathic attitudes in North American children and adolescents.”

Castro is one of four political figures to make a surprise appearance in the game’s multiplayer zombie mode. The others are JFK, Richard Nixon and Robert McNamara.
