Dark Souls GFWL discussion ongoing say developers

The recent official announcement of the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die PC edition was quickly marred by the reaction (and subsequent retaliation) of fans when it was revealed the title would utilize Games for Windows Live.

At least two members of the Dark Souls team are letting on there may be some new announcements on the matter coming soon.

"[Microsoft’s Live] is the established server that we used for the Xbox 360 version – that’s the main reason we picked it," Producer Daisuke Uchiyama explained to Edge. "But the partnership decision is still ongoing. We might have another announcement soon regarding the platform we’ll be using."

"There is still a lot of time for marketing beats,” marketing head Carlson Choi added.

A fair point as the PC version’s targeted release period is currently set for this August; and as Choi suggests, a lot can happen between now and then.

The comments would seem to suggest that GFWL won’t be an exclusive platform for the PC version of the game, and moreover that the platform may be ditched all together for another option such as Steamworks.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die will add a new chapter, two new bosses, new enemies, a PVP matchmaking system, a new NPC, additional weapons and armor, and more when it arrives later this year.
