David Hamid becomes new GAME exec chairman

The former joint COO of Dixons, David Hamid, will become GAME’s new executive chairman, MCV understands.

Hamid’s former employers include MFI (chairman), Halfords (CEO), Nationwide Auto Centres (chairman) and Russian retailer Mvideo (deputy chairman).

He is also an operating partner of OpCapita’s.

OpCapita’s Henry Jackson will also be involved in the new team.

MCV has also been told that the hunt is on for a new CEO to replace the now departed Ian Shepherd.

Interestingly, OpCapita’s initial bid would have seen Shepherd remain at the company, but as GAME’s status changed so did the parameters of OpCapita’s bid.

It now intends to put a new management team in place to facilitate the programme of operational change that is needed… [for] the challenge of restoring GAME’s fortunes in partnership with its employees and suppliers”.
