DayZ approaches 1m registered users as creator talks standalone

ArmA II’s mod monster DayZ is rapidly closing in on 1m registered users, so where does it go from here?

Creator Dean Hall touched on a variety of topics regarding his smash hit with VG247, including what has to happen for the title to go standalone and the possibility of the new version arriving in 2012.

I want to see it become a standalone game, following the Minecraft model of a low price point, but that will only work if we say that everyone is going to pay,” Hall said. In order for people to not feel ripped off we need to have a load of new content; so, things like base-building, tidying and cleaning up animations and add ragdoll physics as the like.”

Hall hopes that the standalone effort makes it out this year, so long as a publishing agreement with Bohemia Interactive and/or another company can be reached.

DayZ currently boasts over 933,000 registered users.
