DFC predicts PS4 dominance this generation

PS4 won’t break all-time console sales records but will emerge as the next-gen console winner, analyst DFC Intelligence has predicted.

DFC Intelligence has forecasted that the PlayStation 4 would be the number one console game system of this new generation,” it said. The successful launch of the PS4 is an indication that Sony is already establishing an early leadership position.

"The initial success of the PlayStation 4 bodes well for its future. The PlayStation 2 and Wii went on to be the best selling console systems ever. DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the number one system of this generation."

It notes that PS4 has enjoyed the best ever console launch ever, however, thanks to its 2.1m sales, bettering the Xbox One, Wii and PS2 launches.

Nonetheless, a report from Baird Equity Research yesterday seemed to point toward a more level playing field between PS4 and Xbox One, although it too did give the edge to Sony’s machine.
