Double Fine Kickstarter ends, raises $3,335,265

The Double Fine Kickstarter experiment has come to a close, raising some $3.33m in funding exclusively through the crowdfunding site.

Over 87,000 backers piled up funds that all told ended up exceeding one of project head and designer Tim Schafer’s previous works, Grim Fandango.

The effort’s original aim was to collect $400,000 for a new adventure game from Schafer’s studio. After just over a month, the numbers hit more than eight times the goal.

An accompanying documentary will capture the game’s creation and development from start to finish.

"It’s been an amazing experience," Schafer concluded during a live stream of the event’s final hours. "So much love."
