E3 2011: Wii Vitality Sensor still alive

Development of the Wii Vitality Sensor continues and the peripheral could still see a release.

At a developer panel at E3, Shigeru Miyamoto said, Development has continued,” Siliconera reports.

He went on to say that the sensor, revealed by Nintendo in 2009, has a difficult time performing consistently across a variety of situations.

Miyamoto told those present that Nintendo will continue to do research on sensors and he hopes to bring a Vitality Sensor-like device to the market someday.

Nintendo told MCV earlier this year that the sensor’s lack of quality was holding back its release.

The Vitality Senser was first unveiled at E3 2009 by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.

No games were demonstrated at the time, but Nintendo asserted that it could be used for non-gaming applications. Then, the sensor was capable of measuring the user’s pulse, not just their heartbeat.
